Acoustic Emission Monitoring of Compressive Bone Fractures and Tensile Ligament Injuries in the Spine
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Acoustic emission (AE) sensors record dynamic stress waves generated from release of energy in a material, such as a fracture [1]. These have been used to detect the time of fracture of skull and lower extremity bones [2-3]; however they have not been used to detect and differentiate between dynamic bone fractures and ligament injuries in the spine. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using AE signals to detect and differentiate between the time of injury of vertebral body (VB) and ligamentum flavum (LF) specimens tested in compression and tension, respectively.

Background: Tibial and femoral fractures, commonly seen in emergency departments, may be associated with various knee ligament injuries. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of such fracture-associated knee ligament problems, with especial attention to rapid diagnosis. Methods: This study was carried out in patients with femoral or tibial fractures who were operated on in Imam...
متن کاملCervical vertebral injuries associated with the ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament: Imaging features
BACKGROUND Spinal injuries associated with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) have been characterized. However, the imaging features of traumatic cervical spine fractures in patients with OPLL have not been assessed adequately. PURPOSE To characterize the patterns of traumatic cervical spine fractures associated with different types of OPLL. MATERIAL AND METHODS We r...

Thoracolumbar fractures are an important topic in spinal surgery. In this article, the instability of the thoracolumbar fracture classifications and surgical treatments are discussed, with a particular focus on treatment concepts that are based on the modern classification systems. Introduction Thoracolumbar junction has unique anatomical and biomechanical features because of this region is a t...
متن کاملHealth Monitoring for Composite under Low-Cycle Cyclic Loading, Considering Effects of Acoustic Emission Sensor Type
Composites have been widely used in the aerospace industry. Due to the requirement of a high safety for such structures, they could be considered for health monitoring. The acoustic emission approach is one of most effective methods for identifying damages in composites. In this article, standard specimens were made from carbon fibers and the epoxy resin, with the [03/902/...

In this study, the longitudinal and hoop tensile strengths of an industrial ±55° Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipe with eighteen layers as well as the associated failure mechanisms are determined. To obtain the longitudinal and hoop tensile strengths values, three specimens are cut from the studied GRE pipe in each direction. A comparison is done between both the strength values, and the fractu...
